Mind Your Resume

Are you trying for a job? Or are you thinking for relocation in a better company? Your resume is the reflection of your work experience, skill, education and personalities.

What's in a name? There are a number of synonyms of the word – resume. You can say ‘Curriculum Vitae' or ‘Bio-data' or ‘Resume'. The main purpose of your resume is to represent you for the next better job.

How many pages? I would like to say that the resume should be of two pages. There is an extra liability of a Software Programmer to write down details of the all projects done. It may be done from the third page onwards.

The content of your resume represents yours ability and performance. The content attracts one recruiter to pick you out of the lot for interview call. Always follow reverse – chronological order in writing work experiences, education, project details and others. That means last-thing-done comes first!

The real-life resumes of job seekers from all levels, industries and career fields may check the following points:

  1. Structure: The page setup should be uniform from all the sides. The font should be clear and correctly readable. Use only one font. The size of font should not be very small or very big. Use only one type of bullet mark.
  2. Grammar: Never have any type of grammatical mistake. Keep in mind that your computer's spell-check function may not catch every error. Always avoid incorrect word choice as well as misspelling.
  3. Your Claim: Never claim solution to un-ending problems. Never declare yourself as a self-proclaimed achiever. Never have superlative claim. Never claim anything in negation with respect to the job you want to perform in your next workplace.
  4. Your Expected Salary: Salary requirements don't belong to a resume. You can write the salary matter in the cover letter. A salary should be "commensurate" with experience.
  5. Let every thing you write be concise and realistic.
  6. Now be ready to face the Interviewer. The interviewer will ask you everything possible only picking it from the resume you sent. So always write the truth and be ready to face the probable questions from the interviewer.

Wish you all the best. Have a smart resume and move places.
