PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapists or physical therapists provide services aimed at preventing the onset and/or slowing the progression of conditions resulting from injury and disease among the other causes. They help who have functional conditions, resulting from back and neck pains injuries, sprains, strains and fractures, arthritis, burns, amputations, stroke, multiple sclerosis, birth defects like cerebral palsy and spina bifida, injuries related to work and sports, and others.

Physiotherapists teach the importance of fitness and show people how to avoid hurting their bodies at work of play. They design and supervise individualized conditioning programmes to help health-conscious people. Physiotherapists increase their overall fitness and muscular strength and endurance.

They may work with physicians, occupational therapists, rehabilitation nurses, dentists, phychologists, social workers, fitness trainers, speech therapists and audiologists.

Qualification

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT): 4 and a half years + 6 months in-ternship ·

Eligibility: 10+2 with physics, chemistry, biology

Selection: Medical-type entrance examination (objective) After BPT:MPT/ MphT Specifications: sports/cardio pulmonary of cardiovascular and respiratory/ neuro sciences/ orthopaedics & tramatology or musculo skeletal

Placements

Work in hospitals, private physiotherapy consulting practices, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, corporate or industrial health centers, sports facilities, research institutions, special schools, paediatric centers, ete. May be owners of partners in private practices.

Entry point salaries: Rs 4,500 approx (government), but it is lower in private facilities Individual sessions: Rs 200-300 hourly, more for complicated cases handled by experienced physiotherapists.
